The Mighty
Awed
I have just finished watching one of best movies I have ever seen in my life. It wasn't planned. This isn't the first time I have discovered a such a gem late at night after my nights out. Now that I can write about it, I shall.
The Mighty. The story revolves around two boys, around the age of 14. Kevin, who looks vaguely like a young Harry Potter, is frail and suffers from a birth defect. His Dad abandoned his mother when he learned about the birth defect. His Mum is a caring, loving and beautiful lady who loves her special son very much.
Max was big-sized, looking a bit like Buzz from Home Alone, if you remember. But he didn't look so menacing. He was more mellow. Dull too. His Dad is serving time and his Mum, is dead...
They were both queer in their own way. Kevin had to use his crutches to move around and Max, was living with a unspeakable secret buried deep within his heart. But they came together, became friends, trusted and loved. From then on, they began to deal with discrimination, self-doubt, and haunting pasts together. They also discovered friendship, honour, courage, imagination and inspiration. Together, as a team. As friends.
However, as heart-warming this story is, it is also equally heart-wrenching. The both of them also had to deal with death, and this time, separately. Without each other.
The music in the movie was grand and in my view, added great effect to the theme of the movie.
I did some research and I found out that they were at least 4 noteworthy stars in this movie. Kevin, Max, Kevin's mum and an unmentioned Loretta. I absolutely had no idea. Perhaps I was too mesmerized the story. I also found out that "The Mighty" did not do well at the box office. It is however, well-loved by the people who have come to know of its existence, as have I.
Discovered what a gem "The Mighty" is and why all of us do not know of its existence.
